Boston music, like its history, is unique.

I’ve done a lot of interviews, but rarely have I had as much fun as with the Above the Basement crew! The conversation is spirited, and the questions are thought-provoking and relevant.
Any time these guys want to talk to me, I’ll be there in a heartbeat!
— BOSTON POPS CONDUCTOR KEITH LOCKHART

Above The Basement is a Boston-based podcast that features casual and candid discussions with local, national, and international musicians, artists, producers, and others from Boston and beyond.

The conversations offer experiences from those shaping our music community and for whom music is a passion. You hear their stories, hardships faced and overcome...and why they love what they do.

Who We Are

I do not remember having a better time in a hotel room!
— LEGENDARY BASSIST LELAND SKLAR (JAMES TAYLOR, PHIL COLLINS, JACKSON BROWNE)

In a sea of shrinking print space and dwindling in-depth journalism, ATB is a rare island of smart, insightful conversation about music. Chuck and Ronnie do their homework, ask meaningful questions, and create a space where musicians can get into the nitty gritty of their work instead of just answering rote questions with rote answers... My favorite conversation of the year.
— MULTI GRAMMY-NOMINATED SINGER-SONGWRITER ALASTAIR MOOCK

While music is the common thread, Above The Basement has evolved into conversations that harness human interest, culture, and community, bridging into discussions about health, science, education, and other aspects of life.

We have bridged topics like the environment with Eagles songwriter and drummer Don Henley, mindfulness with singer-songwriter Jewel, social justice with the amazing organization Boston Children’s Chorus, and healing with Mary Gauthier through the wonderful program SongwritingWith:Soldiers.

We have also spoken with highly acclaimed local artists and organizations including Keith Lockhart, Blue Man Group, Sally Taylor, Jennifer Kimball, Moe Pope, and Alastair Moock to talk about their own personal missions.

Our guests are truly special and ATB is honored to be part of their journey, while helping them tell their story.

My Above the Basement session was the kind of conversation you’d more likely have on a porch (or in the bar) than sitting in front of microphones. It was a pleasure to have such a free-ranging exchange with people who know and love music in general, and the Boston scene in particular.
— SINGER-SONGWRITER KRIS DELMHORST
If you’re looking for a great listen, search no further than the wonderful podcast, Above the Basement! I loved being a guest on this series, and it was fascinating listening to the other episodes to learn about other local art and music scenes. The format is relaxed, and the hosts are engaging and informed. Chuck and Ronnie made me feel right at home - it was just like sitting in my living room chatting with old friends. I had the privilege of talking with Chuck and Ron live from an art gallery in Boston as part of an ATB podcast. These guys were awesome!! It was a refreshing experience to have thoughtful and funny conversation in a relaxed setting with two great guys who clearly love music!
I feel very honored to have been included in their amazing lineup of people from the Boston scene (and beyond!) and
highly recommend that everyone check out the ATB podcast.
— COUNTRY SINGER-SONGWRITER ASHLEY JORDAN
I’ve never been a huge talker...but the guys at ATB make it EASY. The day I met them felt like we’d been longtime buddies. Great conversation, and even greater people. Check em’ out!
